LA MOLA

To this plateau (192 Meter)  only you can go for one street  the only highway in Formentera with direct access from the port La Savina to La Mola. The village center here is  El Pilar.  The name of the island derives from ‘forment’, or white bread wheat. So, the wheat mills continue to form part of the landscape. The El Pilar mill has been fully restored and is open to visitors. But on Wednesday or Sunday, go to the market afternoon: a colourful bazaar, with live music and a very wide range of objects. Don’t be surprised if the lizard is always present in nearly all the stalls.mal

The Far de La Mola is a must as well. The lighthouse is at the Formentarian end of the world. Going round this building reveals the vertical abruptness of the cliffs. Have a look for the monument paying tribute to Jules Verne and his novel about Formentera and La Mola.

The beach nearby from la Mola  is Playa Migjorn the longest sandy beach of the whole island.

PLAYA MIGJORN / PLAYA ES ARENALS

Playa Migjorn is the longest sandy beach of the whole island. Some stretches are partly scattered with rocks. The fine white sand is a paradise for small children, but please take heed of the coast guard warnings before going for a dip: green flag is o.k., yellow warns you for a dangerous streaming. A quality restaurant for families, as La Fragata, or a beach bar as Pirata-Bus, are here situated at the coast-line.

Playa Es Arenals is at the eastern end of Playa Migjorn, with a famous diving and windsurfing school.

Es Calo

It´s a little fishing village below La Mola. Here you will find a small harbour, where the fisher boats are hauled up rustic ramps. Es Calo has a tranquil and homey atmosphere because of these boats, the nets, the rustic sheds protecting the boats, the fish laid out to dry in the sun… Restaurants as Pasquale and Fonda Rafalet are here situated. Early in the morning, Fonda Rafalet is a meeting point, with a fabulous view on the see. An ideal place for quenching your thirst, because of the incredible nearness and colours of the sea. These outdoors cafés for refreshments are a must, they have a unique and enviable flavour, the Es Calo flavour.

Closely linked 500m is the beach  Tramuntana, with impressive views of the walls and caves of the cliff line.

SAN FERNANDO

Be located in the middle of the island . In the summer always is an meeting place for many people.Hippies looking for a simple life gattered in this small village and started the Fonda Pepe. Worth seeing still today and feeling the old days ! It’s a place of nostalgic pilgrimage, going back to the circuit of those days: Frisco-Formentera-Katmandu. In Sant Ferran too, there is a famous guitar repair workshop. For many years now the workshop has organised holiday stays for students of the guitar from all over the world. Make your way from the village centre to the main street and the outdoors cafés of Bar Vedera and Hotel Iles Pitiuses offer you refreshments and the best tapas. Very close to Sant Ferran is the Jeroni’s Cave (Cova d’en Jeroni). It is said to have been formed three million years ago. The interior of this cave affords continual surprises for the visitor and the air temperature inside is a constant 22° C, which is ‘cool’ !

Es Pujols

This is the biggest tourist resort in the summer. In this village they found lots of restaurants at the sea front, bars and shops. Nice promenade and a lively beach side town.

Here you can find: sun, beach and night life. Es Pujols lives by and for its tourists. At night, local craftsmen sell their wares and market stalls with clothes and jewellery encourage visitors to buy. Up to Es Pujols, for fun and entertainment. Between the end of it known as Pedrera d’en Coix and the Punta Prima whose defence tower marks the furthest limit of the bathing area, you can really find all you need as a tourist. Discos:……, Bars…….., Hotels…………

La Savina

It´s the first place how you see when you arrive a Formentera. La Savina have a nautical atmosphere, an exclusive marina, lots of restaurants and bars, hotels e.g hotel Bahia, hotel Bellavista with a very good restaurante, hotel La Savina  and mor.scooter and bike rentals e.g Motor Rent Es Pujols, Autos Formentera, Beta Car …There are also boats for hire. Have a relaxed look around this small harbour.

From the other side of the harbour you can go on foot or with the biycicle directly to the beach Big Sur, Illetas, Tanga.

In the evening there are many of hippie-stalls.

Porto Sále

it´s not an village because one of the most beautifulf places for the holidays in this island.why has special views on the ‘laguna’ and on Ibiza. A good restaurant is El Sueno, with surprises and excellent cooking.

And it´s a very nice place to go with the bicycle.

San Francisco

The island’s official ‘capital’, with town hall, tourist information, post office, bank, doctor and fortified church at the opposite of the town hall; the church square is the meeting point, in the morning local craftsmen sell their goods here.

Just walk down the pedestrian streets or have a drink into one of the nearby bars.

Pay a visit to the Ethnography Museum after your English or Spanish breakfast, that’s a must, if you want to see collections of traditional tools in traditional times only recently past.

In Formentera, you’re save, because a brand new hospital is close to San Francisco.

Cala Sahona und Cap de Barbaria

A small deep horseshoe shaped bay, turquoise water and picturesque fishing boats, backed by red rocks…All visitors (families and children) praise its white sands and transparent waters. Fantastic views, particularly at sun down.

There is an increasingly wider range of beach attractions available, hiring a car, a vehicle or a scooter is now problem. Restaurant El Sol serves you special dishes (freshly caught sea fish…).

Here starts the rising land as well of Cap de Barbaria. This is the point nearest to Africa and on your way, you’ll see signs indicating the archaeological remains. Once at the Cap, you can reach the watch tower on foot, about five hundred metres to the left of the lighthouse. But, do have a look for ‘the hole’, the mysterious entrance to the impressive cliffs and the magical cave….
